Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup is for relief of the symptoms of coughs and colds.
Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup contains liquorice, ipecacuanha and squill which belong to a group of medicines known as expectorants. They help remove phlegm in people with chesty coughs and colds.

Active Ingredients per 5ml: Ipecacuanha Liquid Extract 0.0076ml, Liquorice Liquid Extract 0.125ml, Squill Oxymel 0.78ml, Also contains: Ethanol, Sucrose, Alcohol 2.9 vol%, Sucrose 2.3g per 5ml, The other ingredients per 5ml are: Pumilio Pine Oil, Capsicum Tincture (Capsicum Oleoresin), Ethanol, Chloroform, Diethyl Ether, Arrowroot, Menthol, Peppermint Oil, Anise Oil, Sucrose, Black Treacle and Purified Water
Do not store above 25 C. Some deposits may form on storage. This is normal and can be mixed by shaking.
Preparation and Usage
Shake the bottle.
Take the mixture by mouth, sipping slowly for best effect.
Adults, the elderly and children over 12 years:
Take 2 x 5ml spoonfuls every 4 hours if required.
Do not give to children under 12 years old unless your doctor tells you to.
If symptoms persist consult your doctor.
Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
1. Before you use this medicine
Do not use the medicine if you have….
An allergic reaction to any of the ingredients.
An allergy to colophony (pine resin) which is contained in some cosmetic products e.g. lipsticks and eyeshadow.
Any type of heart complaint.
Or are under 12 years.
Talk to your doctor if you are taking….
Carbenoxolone for a stomach ulcer.
Medicines which help remove fluids from the body (e.g. water tablets).
Pregnant or breastfeeding….
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using if you are pregnant, might be pregnant or are breastfeeding.
Important ingredient information
Contains 2.3g of sucrose per 5ml dose. To be taken into account in people with diabetes. If you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this medicine.
It also contains 2.7% vol ethanol (alcohol), i.e. up to 214mg per 10ml dose, equivalent to 6ml beer, or 2.2ml wine per dose. Harmful for those suffering from alcoholism. To be taken into account in children, pregnant women and high risk groups such as patients with liver disease or epilepsy.

Like all medicine Covonia Herbal Mucus Cough Syrup can have side effects, although these don’t affect everyone.
Possible side effects are:
Allergic reaction such as dermatitis, skin rash, flushing and itchy lumps.
Feeling sick or being sick.
Higher sodium salt and water levels within the body.
Low blood potassium levels with the body.
Unbalanced potassium and sodium levels may produce side effects of high blood pressure, water retention and irregular heartbeat.
If you notice these or any other side effect not included above, stop use and tell your doctor or pharmacist.
They will tell you what to do.
3. Further information
If you accidentally take too much see a doctor straight away. Take the pack with you to show which medicine you have swallowed.
Do not use after the expiry date. The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Return any unused medicine to the pharmacy for disposal.
